I’ve worked in the trenches carrying quotas across Silicon Valley and the Midwest, leading many complex million dollar deals. No matter the product or market, the fundamentals remain. Several of these key items are discussed in Drive Profits Today, a simple read focused on how the basics can drive any organization forward.
In 2023, I was selected to participate in the year-long Cisco Leadership Program. Our team of 7, Team Growth Factory, won 1st place for identifying a struggling business segment and proposing a plan to right the ship. We began by looking at Cisco’s growth objectives and worked through data and our own experiences to identify historical trends. Leadership had set a corporate goal of 50% recurring revenue, but a core product was losing $550M per year, causing tremendous drag on the organization.
Over the next several months, we met with stakeholders from engineering to sales and customer support to uncover what was driving this high attrition. We understood from the data that if we could make a few specific changes, we could capture $150M of recurring revenue for this particular product. Based on the data and stories we learned, we built a plan focused on small changes and attainable goals. This included building a template for post-sales handover and having support engage with customers to enable 1 feature in the first 30 days. We called this Project Activ8 and obtained executive sponsorship aligned to 5 key milestones.
Today, I'm looking to leverage the lessons I've learned over the years to acquire and grow a portfolio of businesses and to build a reputation in the marketplace as a go-to for building fun and profitable businesses.
